A very pretty and dainty late Victorian 18 karat gold, pearl and old cut diamond heart affixed to a red enamel bow set as a brooch, made circa 1880. Comprising a split pearl and diamond centre cluster with twelve Old Cut diamonds, an enamel bow on the top of this motif and ‘ribbon’ completing the design of this dainty antique brooch.

This is a fine example of a love token of the period with diamonds ‘forever’, red enamel for passion with the pearl reinforcing the connection of Venus (from the sea). The bow is significant as a knot that cannot be untied so also ‘forever’. This would make a superb Ruby wedding gift.
