A fabulous Victorian opal and diamond crescent brooch set with 9 precious opals accentuated with old cut diamonds in gold, typically with the gemstones set in silver. The opals have great fire, predominantly blue/green/pink in color, relating more to the black opal range than pale opal. (Please see the video clip of the brooch as an indication of the depth of colour of the opals, they are notoriously difficult to photograph).
The gems graduate in size from approx. 6mm x 4mm at the center down to 3mm x 2mm at each end. Between each opal are pairs of Old Mine cut diamonds set one above the other before terminating with a single diamond at each end. A pierced gallery completes the design. A curved pin with hinged fastening to a C scroll catch.
