A fine antique Victorian 9ct rose gold fancy book link chain hand crafted circa 1880. The main links are crafted as single, flat rolled edge panels which are connected at each end to form a complete loop - each link is has double carved bands that are only to one side, the underside is solid. Connecting the book links are oval links and despite being over 100 years old, it's modern aesthetic showing just how timeless Victorian jewellery can be!

This chain is a great length ideal for layering or stacking and features a jump ring clasp. The bolt clasp can be used to hold a locket or large pendant or turned to the back of the neck for a fluid chain necklace.

In addition to being a beautiful and sometimes sentimental fashion adornment, book chain necklaces surprisingly had another purpose. When women finished reading at night, they removed their book chain from their neck and used it as a bookmark. Perhaps that is where the name “book chain” actually originated!
