A fantastic 9ct rose gold antique Victorian Albert chain with alternating trombone & round uniform links. Every link is stamped ‘9’ and the anchor for Birmingham assay office and a lower case ’s’ to denote the year are applied to one of the links (see image). The Albert chain can be dated to 1892.
The chain has two spring loaded, swivel 'dog' clasps both of which are in full working order. The t-bar, which is also hallmarked, is attached to a larger jump ring allowing the t-bar to slide freely up and down the chain, a nice feature for versatility.
Weighing a hefty 41.8 grams and measuring 16” or 400mm long and 8mm wide the chain is a rare example with many similar chains having been melted down. Traditionally worn as a watch chain suspending a pocket watch, Albert chains can also be worn as necklaces and used to suspend charms and pendants.
