A super example of the marquise* or navette shaped ring much favoured by the Victorians. Modelled in 18 karat yellow gold and silver set antique diamond ring is set with 15 Old European Cut diamonds. The head of the ring is 1” long. Each claw set stone ranging from an estimated 0.10 to 0.20 carats diamond weight making a total of 2.63cts. The head of the ring is silver set on gold again typical of Victorian craftsmanship during this period. A really stunning antique “all diamond” ring with heritage, displaying excellent scintillation. This would make for a fantastic antique engagement ring.
*History of the Marquise Cut Diamond. The marquise cut's origin dates back to the 18th century when King Louis XV of France (1710-1774) commissioned a jeweler to design a cut shape that resembled the lips of his mistress, Jean Antoinette Poisson, the Marchioness Madame de Pompadour. This ring can be sized upon request.
