Georgian 18ct Yellow Gold Garnet Cabochon and Pearl Cross Pendant, Circa 1820

A fine and impressive Georgian 18ct yellow gold garnet cabochon or carbuncle and natural pearl cross dating from circa 1820. The beautifully crafted cannetille work making up the majority of the body of the cross with the deep, pigeon blood red polish garnets set to each arm of the cross with a central round garnet to the centre. The central section is also claw set with four natural pearls which have a silverly lustre and filigree detailing to the edge of the setting. The pendant hangs from a well sized 9ct gold jump ring (later addition) giving easy access to a variety of chain lengths.

The reverse of pendant shows the brooch fitting with 'c' clasp to a plain, polished back. It was common for similar pieces of the Georgian and Regency period to have this dual functionality both as a pendant and a brooch.
