A unique and pretty early Victorian 9ct gold precious opal and turquoise plaque ring, hand crafted in circa 1840. Rings of the period often had heavily decorated shanks with deep chasing and engravings depicting floral scenes and foliate motifs, this one is no exception. The head of the ring is set with a  colourful yet calming combination of a central set opal cabochon with reds and electric greens and blues when catching the light im its wonderful play of colour. The turquoise boarder are cabochon cut and well matched for colour bar one that has a deeper greenish tint.

Finally the inside of he shank has marks for 9ct and also inscription for ‘MM’. Overall a fine and unique antique ring.
