A delightful late Victorian 15ct yellow gold turquoise and pearl cluster hand crafted in England circa 1890. The head of the ring set with perfectly matched turquoise stones set in ornate gold-work encircling a natural split pearl.
This ring would have been more than likely a love token. The turquoise denotes ‘forget me not’ taken from the tiny flower of the same hue. The central pearl represented Venus the goddess of love, so these two combined aspects revealed were love and forever.
This combination of turquoise and pearl was common throughout the Victorian and Edwardian period, with many rings, bracelets, pendants and earrings being produced using these gemstones, in great proliferation. The Victorians, then Edwardians enjoyed a love of sentimental jewellery sharing these coded messages, to the delight of the sweethearts. The shank is also beautifully decorated with deeply chased ornate patination adding an additional design element to make this ring extra special.
